Our Society`s History.

Loughborough Coin & Search Society (LCSS) was established in 1968.
We originally formed as a numismatic society amongst work colleagues at Brush Engineering in Loughborough.
As such we remain closely linked with the town and its surrounding history.
As metal detectors became commercially available in the mid 1970`s the Society expanded hence “Coin & Search”.
Our members range from original founders through to teenage children and we look forward to continuing to thrive & grow in the digital age.
This website is one of many methods we use to reach out to interested parties ranging from landowners, farmers & speakers to new members.
The society is run by volunteers & a committee elected from our members at our Annual General Meeting held in January.
Accountability to our members is one of the founding principles of the society.
We are also affiliated to the National Council for Metal Detecting
Our affiliation provides all our members with third party liability insurance to the value of £10 million. The NCMD supports the metal detecting hobby nationally through its individuals, clubs & regions.
The Society also work closely with the Portable Antiquities Scheme and our county Finds Liaison Officer to ensure historical finds are recorded for the benefit of all.
We are avid fundraisers for good causes and have raised funds for Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance, Teenage Cancer Trust, Macmillan Nurses, Rainbows Hospice and many other causes.
